“This is a targeted literature review to address part of the Health Protection Scotland HAI Delivery Plan 2011-12. The aim of the document is to review the evidence base and expert opinion to ensure that the key recommendations included within a quality improvement tool are the most critical for improving and streamlining practices related to the taking of blood cultures to ensure minimisation of sample contamination occurring. The HPS Infection Control Team undertook a review of evidence base underpinning the Blood Culture portfolio developed by Healthcare Improvement Scotland in conjunction with SPSP.”
